About Us

The SW Florida Chess Club, originally located in Naples, was started in July 2009.   Founder and President Greg Gordon has been a USCF member and chess player since the 1980's, and has participated in local and state tournaments in Pennsylvania, Delaware and Florida. He is a certified USCF LOCAL Tournament Director

Over the years, other local chess clubs aligned with the SW Florida Chess Club, further strengthening and extending our membership from Marco Island, Naples, Bonita Springs, Cape Coral, Ft. Myers, Lehigh Acres, North Port, Port Charlotte, and Sarasota.

In September 2013 a Scholastic Section was added to the SWFCC for scholastic aged children 7 to 18.  The Scholastic Section meets Saturdays from 10:00 to 12:30 pm for chess instruction and casual games, and is for scholastic members USCF 1150 and below, including non-rated.

Beginning adults are encouraged to "sit in" with the scholastic section to get lessons and proper instruction.

We offer FREE chess instruction and FREE entry to all our monthly USCF rated tournaments.  An Estero Rec Center membership is required. ($10 one-time fee)

USCF rated tournaments are held on the first Saturday of every month.  Typically three sections, Open, Under, and Scholastic.
